The M1X Helps West Yorkshire Councils Build Careers
The Mix has been appointed by a conglomerate of five local councils’ Building Control divisions to design an identity, website and marketing materials for a new initiative aimed at encouraging school leavers to sign up for an apprenticeship-style career opportunity in Local Authority Building Control.
Led by Kirklees, and backed by Bradford, Calderdale, Leeds and Wakefield councils, the scheme, which is also part funded by the government’s Improvement & Development Agency (IDeA), highlights the benefits of working for local authorities, through a series of activities designed to speak to school leavers on their own terms.
The activity revolves around an interactive website, with video footage of a typical day on the job, galleries of typical scenarios, and full details of the scheme. If successful, the scheme will be used as a pilot for the rest of the country to follow.
Commenting on the project, managing director at The Mix Alexis Bradbury said;
“This is a really interesting scheme that we are thoroughly enjoying being involved with. We have clear cut objectives within a twelve month timeframe, and the response so far from the committee has been fantastic.”
Barry Bedford, the project co-ordinator and a consultant with Kirklees and Bradford councils added; “The committee is delighted with the enthusiasm and creativity that The Mix has brought to this new initiative, and we believe that the whole skills pathway model created as part of this project can be adopted across the country to help encourage young people into this excellent career opportunity.”
